Adding the DHCP Server Role in Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016

  1. In the Server Manager window, click Manage toward the top right, click Add Roles and Features. The Add Roles and Features Wizard window appears
  2. On the Before you begin page, read the text then click Next

  3. On the Select installation type page, leave the default Role-based or feature-based installation radio button selected and click Next
  4. On the Select destination server page, leave the default Select a server from the server pool radio button selected and in the Server Pool selection area, select the intended target server for the role to be installed on. Click Next
  5. On the Select server roles page, from the list in the Roles selection area, check the DHCP Server box and the Add features that are required for DHCP Server? window appears. In this window, click Add Features. On the Select server roles page, click Next

  6. On the Select features page, click Next
  7. On the DHCP Server page click Next
  8. On the Confirm installation selections page, click Install.
  9. Once the installation has succeeded, on the Installation progress page, Windows Server will require a last step before the DHCP configuration will be considered complete. Within the Installation progress page, click Complete DHCP configuration. The DHCP Post-Install configuration wizard window appears.
  10. In the DHCP Post-Install configuration wizard window, click Commit to create the security groups listed.
  11. Click Close. Click Close, and the adding of the role is complete.
