Forefront TMG 2010: Getting Started Wizard

As the fifth installment in the Installing Exchange: 2010 series, the Forefront TMG product has a few configuration questions to ask of the administrator before being ready for production configuration. The steps to complete this Getting Started Wizard are as described below.

The getting started wizard is quite simple in that most of it is self explanatory; this manual should be trivial to follow. Let’s dig in!

  1. In the Getting Started Wizard window click Configure network settings
  2. Click Next
  3. Click Next
  4. Select the internal NIC from the dropdown list and click Next
  5. Leave the external NIC selected in the dropdown list and assure that the IP addressing is accurate. The DNS server should point to the edge server
  6. Click Next
  7. Click Finish
  8. In the Getting Started Wizard window click Configure system settings
  9. In the System Configuration Wizard window click Next
  10. Click Next
  11. Click Finish
  12. Click Define deployment options
  13. Click Next
  14. Click Use the Microsoft Update service to check for updates (recommended) radio button and click Next
  15. Check Enable URL Filtering and click Next
  16. Click Next
  17. Click No, I don’t want to participate and click Next
  18. Click No information is sent to Microsoft and click Next
  19. Click Finish
  20. Click Close
  21. In the Web Access Policy Wizard window click Next

  22. Click Next

  23. Configure the blocking rules as desired and click Next

  24. On the Blocked Web Destinations Exceptions page, click Next
  25. On the Malware Inspections Settings page, select the No, do not inspect Web content requested from the Internet then click Next

  26. Select the Do not inspect HTTPS traffic and do not validate HTTPS site certificates. Allow all HTTPS traffic radio button and click Next
  27. Double click the entry in the Web Cache Configuration page
  28. In the Define Cache Drives window set the Maximum cache size to 4000, clicking the Set button after entering the value
  29. Click OK
  30. Click Next
  31. Click Finish
  32. In the Forefront TMG window click Forefront TMG in the left pane
  33. Click Apply in the right pane
  34. In the Forefront TMG Warning window click the Save the changes and restart the services radio button and click OK
  35. Click Apply
  36. Click OK
